Coronary Artery Disease
Coronary artery disease is a common condition where the arteries that supply the heart become blocked by cholesterol deposits. These blockages can cause chest pain, breathlessness and heart attacks, but with appropriate treatment most patients can live normal, healthy lives. With experience from treating thousands of patients with coronary artery disease, Dr Ryan can provide a personalised plan combining lifestyle changes, medication and interventions to support you in living a long a healthy life.
His clinical practice is focussed on these interventions and he receives referrals from other hospitals across South London and Kent. These include left main coronary angioplasty, coronary rotablation, lithotripsy and implantation of temporary heart pumps including the Impella device and intra-aortic balloon pump. His research is likewise focussed on improving the safety and effectiveness of these procedures.
Valvular Heart Disease
Heart valves are critical to maintaining normal heart function. Degeneration of the heart valves can lead to them either becoming narrowed or leaking, which may lead to heart failure. Dr Ryan is a recognised expert in the assessment and treatment of heart valve disorders. This includes trans catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as well as assessment and co-ordination with cardiac surgeons where surgical options need to be considered.
General Cardiology
As a general cardiologist, Dr Ryan looks after patients with a wide range of cardiac conditions, including those with worrying symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations and fatigue in whom heart disease is suspected.
Through carefully exploring your symptoms, performing a thorough clinical examination and planning appropriate investigations, he will ensure that your condition is carefully assessed to determine whether you have a heart problem. He can then provide reassurance, or a detailed explanation and management plan once a diagnosis has been made.
